There are many things to help us out in our daily lives, but the one item that I use the most in my household is Tea Tree Oil! Ever heard of it? I was finally introduced to it almost 2 years ago. Wish it could have been sooner….this is nature at its best!
Tea Tree oil, which is extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, has been used by the Australian aborigines for centuries as an antiseptic and antifungal treatment. This incredible essential oil should be in everyone’s medicine cabinet. It’s been called a “medicine cabinet in a bottle” and is “effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses and stimulates the immune system.” Because of its ability to disinfect and heal without damaging tissue every Australian soldier during the Second World War had Tea Tree oil in their first aid kits.
There are plenty of companies out there that sell Tea Tree oil, so be sure you are getting the real thing and select only oil from the Melaleuca alternifolia. To be sure you have the authentic Australian Tea Tree oil, it must be labeled as oil of the “Melaleuca alternifolia”.
A few other criteria include:
-
Oil that contains 35% terpinen-4-ol or higher
-
Oil that contains less than 7% Cineole 1,8
-
Tea Tree Essential Oil that comes only from Australia
-
Oil that is fresh and properly stored in a dark brown glass bottle to prevent oxidation from light exposure

20 Great Uses for Tea Tree Oil
Here are a few more uses….
-
Mouth wash – 2-3 drops of the oil in a cup of warm water.
-
Diaper rash – Mix a few drops with a carrier oil.
-
Ear aches – I have tried this for my younger son and had great success! Dilute in warm olive, almond, or coconut oil and use a few drops in the ear. Hold head to the side for one minute and then let the ear drain, using a cotton ball or wash cloth to collect excess oil.
-
Sunburns – A few drops of tea tree with coconut oil can help with any soreness and will reduce blistering or peeling.
Put this gift from nature on your next shopping list! It is a true treasure!
